I'm not sure what you mean. If you're talking about the number of "active facts" in an exercise, the number should either stay the same or increase. It should never decrease (unless you use the advanced study interface and manually remove facts). The number of active facts is the number of items that you have learnt or are still learning, so it should just gradually increase over time as you learn new items. For a given exercise, the number can keep increasing until it is the same as "total", which means you've finished that particular exercise.

I know you've been using the website for a while, so I presume something is not working for you the way it used to, but I can't work out what the problem is from your brief description.
